Dia de los Muertos Surprise Dinner Party

Our friend Andrea was planning her Dia de los Muertos birthday dinner party and was going to have us help her with the DITOdetails. Due to unfortunate circumstances Andrea had to cancel planning it herself, so we continued the planning but kept it a secret to her!

The setting for the party was easy– Karissa's mom's house which is covered in plants, serapes, and Mexican themed decor year round. We set up two tables covered with black linens, decorated with tissue paper flowers, candles, and succulents. Hanging above the dinner setting was vibrant, hand-cut papel picado that Karissa laboriously cut out, oh the pay off– it looked beautiful. We had plenty of candles and globe lights to light up the backyard.

For food we had a potluck with delicious food. We coordinated, decorated, made drinks and dessert. Our guests provided delicious dishes: salsa verde & cheese enchiladas, fried chicken, fall green salad, dips & chips, rice and birria.  Christina made the vegan sugar cookies cut into sugar skulls for decorating & vegan Mexican chocolate cake. Our drink bar had vegan horchata, made by Christina, agua de jamaica, sangria and beer.

& of course an event hosted by DIT&O is not complete without a photobooth. Karissa pasted papel picado that said "Andie" (Andrea's nickname) onto butcher paper. It looked great!

It was a great evening filled with conversation and love. The turn out was great and we really appreciate everyone who attended and help us make Andrea feel extra special on her big day.
